I've always wanted to be a big wig....

The bare headedness is now almost complete.

The patched look was not to my liking so I made a quick visit back to hairdresser Holly and she got the buzz cutters out. We settled on a number 2. That means I still have some hair left, and you can see the outline but there is not much to hang a hat on !!! Ha ha.

During the first week of this treatment I received a call asking me if I would like to book a wig appointment.

That's a bit presumptive, I said. I've still got all my hair. I might keep all my hair. I don't think so. Not for me, I said.

She suggested she call me again in a few weeks. Sure, I said. Ever polite!! Whereas I was actually thinking.....WTF!!! Damn cheek of it all.

I think it's clear she knew more about what was going to happen to me than I did.

So second phone call and I did make a wig appointment. I also asked Annie (BFF) to attend with her giggling gear switched to the on position.

We attended the appointment a couple of weeks ago. It is amazing how quickly I have become used to not having any hair. When I started trying the wigs on they felt odd. Some of that may have to do with the fact my eyebrows are starting to slide off my face like a couple of drunk caterpillars and I am not sure that a full head of hair goes with limited eyebrows.

By the way, Annie did not laugh once.

Yeah!!

I did choose a wig but I am unsure if you will ever see me in it. It feels hot to wear and my scalp is still very sensitive, but at least I know I can dress up should the occasion arise....and, of course, Halloween is just around the corner.

I video-called the MiniMacs and wore the wig. My 9 year old saw the wig and asked about it immediately. Then asked to see me without it. He ran away from the camera. I am not sure whether it was through shock or because he didn't want to laugh in front of me! I am fairly certain he will not be asking me on any play dates soon!!!

In my minds eye, my wig was going to be transformative. But perhaps I am past that age when it can be. In my twenties I went to a party dressed as Dolly Parton and had a tremendous night out wearing a a Dolly wig and assorted accoutrements. I assumed it was the wig that got me all the attention that night but now having seen the long wig (as pictured above) me thinks it may have been the addition of socks in my bra !!

Two further things to report...My BRCA test was negative. Excellent news not just for me but for the girls in my family.

The dizzy spells and breathlessness from last week are abating which means the drugs are working. Not cleared up completely but at least I no long have to sing drunken sailor songs walking down the street to explain my lopsided gait!!

Cycle 3 continues...

Yeah, I like the long blonde look.... after all you are a star Ali with everything challenging you just now! It was nice to see you smiling (I bet Annie had the giggles the whole time) bet you chose the second one in - it looks so real! Lots of love

Well another great insight into what you’re going through. So pleased to hear your positive outlook.

Some of those wigs would take a bit of getting used too. Some look like styles you had in the late 70’s after a hockey match.

Just take great care and glad there are positives in all this. Glynis 😊
