And the results are...

The first MRI was completed a few weeks ago. That is an interesting experience. I was sure I had an MRI when I had my back surgery but I clearly did not, or I have no memory of the clattering noise.

The professionals do their job....well....professionally. Again, helpful and informative. Lie down on your tummy, they said, and just pop your boobs through those two holes.

I know, I know. It sounds like the start of a top shelf book - Diary of a Peep Show Artist !

There is a pillowed headrest (like a massage table) and arms are raised above the head, with one hand then cannulated in readiness for the dye that is going to be injected halfway through the experience.

I laid on my tummy. Move up a bit, down a bit they said. OK, we are going to have move your breasts for you so we get the full circumference in the holes, but please don't move yourself. It was a 4-handed job, one person on the left, one on the right. Feet are slightly raised on a pillow of some sort. Then..Please do not move.

Thank goodness they no longer do that show Candid Camera.

Breathe slowly and relax.

Yea. Relax!!

And the noise starts. And it is loud even with headphones on.

We all know that when told not to move that every muscle in your body starts to leap around and every orifice starts to consider whether it is the right time for an expulsion of air. It was ridiculously difficult. First run was 20-25 minutes. Then they flush the dye through and another 20 minutes. When I got up from the table I was dizzy from not moving and had to sit down.

Anyway, the results are in. My boobs looked like torpedoes on the Doctors screen so I wasn't sure what I was looking at. I was quite impressed that they were so high on my chest and very perky - in line with where they used to be when I was in my 20's!!

Another tumour has surfaced, but a mini-me version alongside the original; and the location of the tumour is quite close to my chest wall. All can be managed in my current treatment plan.

Taking up the NHS 2 for 1 offer, I also had a 'clip' insertion in the boob on the same day. Under local anaesthetic, the clip is positioned so they know where the tumour is now and so they can locate it again when it has hopefully shrunk to a miniscule blob after the first 24 weeks of treatment. That is now the 5th local anaesthetic I have had and the most painful one yet, but I bore the pain with surprisingly little yelping!

Chemo day came and went. A quicker trip - just short of 3 hours - and again I slept through some of the treatment. This week has been more uncomfortable than the previous week. More fatigue, more nausea and lots of short but fast sprints to the little girls room!

On the good days I am getting some exercise. A lovely walk with Heather and then again with Susie. At the moment, I am still unsure what can be done with the PICC line so no Yoga or Pilates yet but I am sure Annie, my PT (personal terrorist) will help me with a plan!

I will need to find something to do to keep me occupied when feeling OK. We dragged out the sewing machine my lovely Mum bought me one Christmas, despite the fact that I have never sewn anything in my life.

I thought I might start with a ball gown!!

I agree with Carol, you haven't lost your touch for blog writing. I also agree with her idea about taking up knitting hats and gloves - could answer your xmas pressy problem too! Keep posting! Lots of love

Ali you are great at blog writing. Your descriptions of your hospital experiences so far are both informative and enlightening - your torpedoes sound like competition for Madonna!

A thought for spending for free time - your sewing project - altering your tops for access to your pic line? Take up knitting for hats or gloves for winter?

Thinking if you.

Well that sounds quite an ordeal and a half. Thank you for writing in such detail. It’s so informative. Also glad you’ve got a great support group.

During lockdown I took up cross stitching. Passed the time and had to concentrate to get things done. And I could put it down whenever I got tired. An easy thing to do on the sewing machine was making handkerchiefs for Christmas gifts.

Anyway you just take care of yourself and stay positive. Glynis 😀
